Carpenter in Kameoka
A carpenter for the smaller jobs.
My name is Masahiko Takigami. I am a semi-retired master carpenter, and I have handed the family carpentry business on to my son. These days I take on smaller jobs around Kameoka, under the name Custom Wood: custom carpentry and woodwork, repairs and maintenance to timber, painting, smaller garden work, and the short tasks too, such as assembling flat-pack furniture or hanging pictures. I like meeting people and talking a new job through, and I will shape the work to the budget you have in mind. A phone call is the best way to reach me.
How it works
The cost is agreed before I start
Tell me what you need. I will say whether I can do it, and what it will cost, before any work begins.
It does not need to be a large job. One shelf, or a door that will not close, is reason enough to phone.
-
Tell me what you want done, and where it is. If you have a photograph, fax it or show it to me.
-
I say whether I can take it on, and how I would go about it.
-
We agree the work and the price. Then I start.

Before you call
- You speak to me
- I answer the phone when I can, and I am the one who comes out to do the work.
- A short job is fine
- It does not need to be a new build, or a large alteration.
- I will say if it is not my work
- Gas work, wiring and other mains electrical work, plumbing installations and structural building are not jobs I take on.
- I clear up
- I protect the area around the work where I can, and I tidy up before I leave.
Photographs
A few of the jobs
A well cover, a timber bridge, a boundary wall and a repainted barn. The photographs and the notes are on the recent work page.
Place
How far I travel
I am based in Kameoka, Kyoto. Tell me the town where the work is, and I will say whether I can get there.
The easiest way to ask is to phone.
A fax is fine too. There is no form on this site, and no email address. Tell me what you need, and where it is.
